Steve Blow has blown it!

I used to enjoy Steve Blow's columns. He seemed to have a down-to-earth common sense coupled with a strong spiritual foundation. However, in the last few years, he's gone off his trolley!

In the latest goofball column, he declares to us how enlightened he has become. He says, ". . .only 27 percent of Protestants said their faith was the only path to salvation. I certainly have come to believe the world is just too wide to say that God cannot move and work in many ways." You have fallen victim to the devil's lies, Steve. God can move anyway He chooses, and He chose to save by the blood of His only begotten Son. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, and no man cometh unto the father but by me." He also said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. . ." Then said Jesus unto them again, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep." That's pretty darn clear. Do you think Jesus is a liar, Steve? If you believe what you say you do, then you must answer that He is.

Steve facetiously "defends" Dr. Robert Jeffress, for "he truly seems to believe everyone is headed to the pits of hell without a good old Baptist-style born-again experience." So, Steve says, we need to "cut a little slack for Jeffress." In other words, Steve doesn't think Dr. Jeffress has had his eyes opened to the new theology that proclaims you get to heaven any way you want. Steve says Dr. Jeffress's faith is "a relic that is fading fast." He accuses First Baptist Dallas of having a big sanctuary but keeping God in a little box.

No, Steve, God isn't in any box. He is the Almighty Creator of the Universe, and He gets to decide what to do with His creation. And He decided there would be one way to get to heaven. Even if God is, as you describe it, in a little box, I'd suggest you figure out ASAP how to cram yourself into that little box with Him, or you'll face a very rude awakening one day!

One more thing: the title of this column is "Fear of hell shifts with times." Maybe so, but "God is the same yesterday, today, and forever." So is the reality of hell.
