Pardon me for not weeping and wringing my hands.

The headline over an article about Minnesota's woes reads "Blind, elderly and the poor feel cuts as government closes up." I think we all have some sympathy for the blind and the elderly. No one is blind or elderly by choice.

But I have a problem with this "poor" terminology. Their example was a 39-year-old mother of eight facing the loss of about $3,600 a month in state child care subsidies plus "other programs." Why does she have eight children? Why does the father(s) not support those children? Does this give you an inkling as to why the State of Minnesota is facing bankruptcy?
