Real Family Entertainment

GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, has rated the ABC Family Channel as excellent in its portrayal of gay and lesbian characters. This channel is targeted at teenage viewers.

GLAAD cited the Family Channel's large number of gay and lesbian characters. This rating is only the second handed out by GLAAD -- the first went to MTV. Michael Riley, ABC Family's chief executive, said, "We're incredibly proud to be honored and acknowledged by GLAAD."

I don't know about you, but this makes me anything but GLAD. It's a sad commentary on what our society deems good. "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"

"ABC Family praised for gay characters." The Dallas Morning News; August 4, 2011; p. 1E.
